House Bill 1493 is signed into Law


Rep. CruzState Representative Janet Cruz’s House Bill 1493 – regarding Career Offenders, was signed into law by Governor Charlie Crist on May 12, 2010 after passing both the House and the Senate by unanimous votes during the session.

The new law would make it a misdemeanor for anyone (who has reason to believe that a career offender is not complying with the Career Offender Registration Act) to assist a career offender elude law enforcement. Specifically, a violation of this statute would include withholding information about the offender’s whereabouts, harboring or assisting another person harbor the offender, or providing false information about the offender’s whereabouts to law enforcement officers. HB 1493 has the support of law enforcement leaders throughout the state as well as from Representative Cruz’s home district in Tampa.
